This litigation is attracting considerable attention in Manitoba and beyond because of the many potential judicial case precedents and legal grey areas involved.

It also raises the propriety/appropriateness of the federally/provincially funded Manitoba Metis Federation (annual budget approximately $25 million) using taxpayer dollars to sue private citizens.

Chief Justice McLachlin has been quoted in both national newspapers as saying she is concerned with access to Canada's legal system by those of average means. As you are undoubtedly aware, she was interviewed as recently as this morning by Michael Enright, Host of CBC's National Radio One's popular Program Sunday Edition where she again reiterated this view.
