Does Manitoba/Canada need a "Caylee's Law?"

Good Day Readers:

CyberSmokeBlog has been receiving unsolicited updates from Change.org which specializes in online petitions. Its spearheading a movement to have a law enacted that would make it a felony not to immediately report a missing child to the authorities. In the recently concluded Casey Anthony trial daughter Caylee's whereabouts went unknown to the police for slightly over a month before a 911 call was finally made.

We decided to undertake some very preliminary recearch to ascertain what would happen had this occurred in Manitoba? Initial results seem to suggest nothing. While the authorities would indeed be suspicious, as far as we can determine there is no specific charge that would be laid. If true that's shocking! Do we need a similar law enacted here?

Is there a Crown prosecutor out there who can shed some light on this? Remember, any request for anonymity will be respected.

Sincerely,
Clare L. Pieuk
