Subtle messages!

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post, "Metis Hour Times Two" goes international!"

Uhm Clare its 2009 not 1989 - you have the wrong flag.

Dear Anonymous:

Thank you for writing. We have a little Russian heritage (Mother's side) so appreciate the country's current flag. The messages were:

(1) The more something changes the more it sometimes remains the same

(2) You cannot necessarily measure a nation's freedom of expression and speech by its flag

An interesting exercise would be to have a Russian lawyer compare defamation law before and after Mr. Putin was President.

Sincerely,
Clare L. Pieuk

I think there are some Russians who would disagree with you ))))) In Oct 2008 ordinary citizens were legally allowed to fly their countries flag.

“There are moments in life when you want everybody to know that you are a citizen of a great nation, a Russian citizen,” Oleg Valenchuk, a member of the pro-Kremlin United Russia party, told the news agency. “I believe the Russian flag carried by an ordinary person is a more striking and genuine manifestation of patriotism than state banners in many civil servants’ offices.”

Oh and I think my story at DMB is up. Don't know why you can't link??
