Told you so what took so long?
Good Day Readers:
Had to smile with today's announcement Jack King of Douglas-King-Chapman fame will have his Law Society of Manitoba disciplinary hearing Monday, March 28, 2011. We're not ones to gloat but we told you so.
Back on February 11 of this year, we received a reply from a senior LSM official to our earlier e-mail question, "When will Mr. King's disciplinary hearing be held?" At that time we were told the date which we then published (The porno King! - February 11, 2011). BTW, it begins at 9:30 a.m. at The Law Society Offices, 219 Kennedy Street, Winnipeg.
What we have no way of knowing is whether defendant King will be present and who, if anyone, will represent him. The accused being a lawyer could presumably self-represent. Normally these hearings are open to the public but there is provision within The Legal Profession Act governing the LSM's operations whereby they can be closed. We plan to present ourself come March 28 to see if we're admitted. So far we've attended 3-pre disciplinary hearings for our beloved Blackie without a problem. Will this one be different?

Jack King has been charged by the Law Society of Manitoba with three breaches of the code of professional conduct. (CBC)
A disciplinary hearing has been set for a Winnipeg lawyer accused of pressuring a man to have sex with his wife and future family court judge.
Jack King is to appear before the Law Society of Manitoba on March 28 on a charge of professional misconduct.
King has been accused by a former client, Alexander Chapman, who says King gave him sexually explicit photos of his wife, Lori Douglas, in 2003.
Douglas was named a judge two years later.
King has admitted to sharing photos with Chapman, but King's lawyer has said his client was depressed at the time and acting without his wife's knowledge.
The law society can impose a range of penalties if it finds King guilty, including revoking his licence to practise law.

"An enemy to those who make him and enemy ..... friend to those who have no friend - that's Blackie!"
Geez Canadian Press, Winnipeg Free Press, CBC Manitoba - sleeping at the switch were we?
Sincerely/Clare L. Pieuk
P. S. The Canadian Press report may be a tad misleading. Although we've not see it, our understanding is Jack King's Citation from The Law Society lists three counts of professional misconduct.
