So what say you Mr. Penner?

Dear Webmaster:

In your recent posting the statement was made:

"Reflecting upon his years as Attorney General, Mr. Penner noted if he could do it again he would have convened a Metis Land Claims Commission to resolve who and how much descendants of original settlers should receive thereby avoiding very expensive litigation costs."

Mr. Penner was Attorney-General in the early 1980's when the MMF decided to drop its land claims case in favour of negotiations as promised by the Province. It was he who then informed the Federation Manitoba had concluded, based on a legal opinion by Eugene Szach, we did not have a leg to stand on and the Province would not enter into negotiations. The end result was the MMF had to start over again and re-filed the Statement of Claim in 1986. Five years and hundreds of thousands of dollars had been wasted. Shame on Mr. Penner.

Dear Anonymous:

We'll call the University of Manitoba's Faculty of law to see it they'll give us an e-mail address for Mr. Penner. If they will we'll send him our posting and your comments to which he'll hopefully reply.

Sincerely,
Clare L. Pieuk
