We here in Manitoba have a Board that inexplicably votes 100% of the time in favor of the President's initiatives. Where in the world of democracy would that ever occur? Without Board Members holding the leaders accountable, it just enables the President to believe that his/her word is the do all end all of the organization. The half-million dollar road sign plan is an example....and you know I can go on about the waste." (Derryl Sanderson, August 31, 2008)
You have raised a very interesting, fundamental and valid point - but the question remains, why do Board Members behave like lemmings ready to follow David Chartrand over the cliff no matter what and without question? There can be but two possible explanations:
(1) David Chartrand is a great, great leader who by his very presence commands complete and utmost respect
or more likely
(2) Board Members feel intimidated and threatened to the point where they fear by speaking up and disagreeing with President Chartrand they will be removed (like Darrel Deslauriers) possibly sued and lose their perks
What other logical, rational explanation can there possibly be? Sadly, it is our people who, in the end, lose because we have a dysfunctional provincial Board. If this isn't a dictatorship than what is? (Anonymous)
A dictatorship is a wrong assessment. This is a free society and those Board Members who are displeased with Dave's leadership but have not taken him to task on some of his and his Executive's very questionable decisions over the past few years, then can be construed as either ignorant to governmental procedures or as you suggested, blinded by appointments and per diems. The chance of being cut out from Davey's gravy could be an overriding factor in some Board of Director's apparent mute-like representation of its hundreds, and in some cases thousands, of constituents....be nice if the elected representatives would consider the good of the people sometimes.
