Lionel Chartrand?
Truth To Power (www.accesstoinfo.blogspot.com; vicpopuli1@gmail.com)
Good Day Readers:
The following article was posted today by The Public Eye. So it makes sense, Lionel Chartrand was the Manitoba Legal Aid Lawyer and CyberSmokeSignals' pro bono General Legal Counsel who:
(1) suggested the election financing reform petition
(2) authored it
(3) sanctioned its publication
(4) at no time advised us it might contain defamatory material
(5) asked he not be indentified as having written it
(6) never recommended it be removed from the internet
One can only surmise he either slept through all his intellectual property classes (defamation law) or skipped them. Mr. L. Chartrand has done paid legal work for the Manitoba Metis Federation. In July of 2008 he fled the province to, if you can believe this, become a Crown Prosecutor in Wetaskiwin, Alberta.

Haven't heard for a while from longtime reader Tully Vorcheux who is a "Fig Fan" of Lionel Chartrand. How say you Mr. Vorcheux?
Sincerely,
Clare L. Pieuk

Hi Lionel, thanks for the e-mail. I prefer the second version because it's shorter and doesn't preclude you from posting on CyberSmokeSignals in the future should you so choose. For example, further establishing/solidifying your reputation as the expert on Metis rights done in such a way that David's name need ever be mentioned.
I'd suggest you send both versions to Terry (shotgun@mts.net) to get his reaction and feedback - he's a pretty common sense kind of guy. Once you've got your statement to where you're comfortable with it you might wish to then run it by your lawyer for any final changes/revisions at which point we can then post it.
When I read comments like those which appear below I can't help but feel that perhaps the wrong person in retracting, apologizing - whatever the words.
Regards,
Clare

Hi Clare,
At the time and even now, I felt that David's behavior was not serious enough for me to press charges, however, it was serious enough for me to know that it was inappropriate. For me it has become a non-issue and the important people in my life are well aware of what went on at the MMF.
As for a witness, I can guarantee that he would recant or deny all in order to protect himself - that plus the fact that he has always been one of David's "pets." It's just another example of David's desire to control everything and everybody. I remember one staff meeting where he and Donald sternly "advised" us on what to think, how to feel and what to say specifically when dealing with employees from CMHC.
I once had to contact the Human Rights Commission in regards to the threatening manner in which Donald Roulette bullied and intimidated me. The HRC said that they could not help me unless I was fired without just cause. I reported the incident to David (as per MMF policy) and was promised a meeting - I never got that meeting or an apology or any type of acknowledgment. I feel that because I stood my ground, defended myself and fought back I was treated with absolute unfairness for the remainder of my "sentence" at the MMF.
As far as I'm concerned, David Chartrand deserves nothing from me. I am part of a club and we jokingly call ourselves "the deserters." Sadly, the bitterness never seems to go away even after all these years. It's like you said there's no closure. Don't be surprised if you see a letter posted from me on Metis Voices repeating much of what I said to you. Some people will call it revenge but they don't have a clue. Keep me posted and thanks for listening. [. . . .]

I too suffered a sentence (not how I felt before david got in). I was a past employee. Eager, proud, loyal... to the cause, not just one family... one set of friends...
I too was unfairly treated until i was unceremoniously shown the door basically. They did know i never voted for david so they found ways... and then I was gone.
otherwise I'll still be there... eager... proud...loyal.
STILL NOT VOTING FOR DAVID... ELBERT... DONALD...ANITA.... DUCK BAY, DUCK BAY, DUCK BAY AND DUCK BAY
P.S. can you say ' this federation has been highjacked by duckbay' next time you see any of the above
Maybe Lionel put Tully in jail! Say, you confuse me. You speak in a derogatory way about Lionel (e.g. he must have slept through Intellectual Property in law school), as if he may have given you bad advice about the legality of the "Petition", yet you trumped up that Petition to high heaven even with Jeff Niederhoffer's blessing! And you tried to amend your defence documents to plead truth as a defence. Which one is it - did Lionel slewfoot you or is he a hero?
