Is the Manitoba Metis Federation still relevant?

Good Day Readers: For Louis Riel Day we decided to follow the lead of the Public Eye and began by changing the masthead on our site replacing it with a quotation from Louis Riel.

Mr. Populi is posting quotations from Fortunat Guiboche today one of a small group who met during the 1960 from which the MMF eventually emerged. In later years as the Federation evolved Mr. Guiboche increasing began questioning the Federation's direction and relevance through two blogs he'd created (The Metis State and Metis Justice Manitoba).

As it turned out he was prophetic. During the past three elections, the most recent June 2010, voter turnout has trended downward so much so last year it didn't even achieve double digits with four of seven Regional Vice-Presidents winning by acclamation.

Recently the Minister responsible for Indian Affairs and Northern Development Canada without prior consultation or discussion involving the Presidents of the Metis National Council and the MMF unilaterally and arbitrarily announced the Canadian Standards Association had been retained to develop a national definition of Metis and verification process something the Federation has been struggling to do for over 20 years.

Footnote: On a couple occasions we attempted unsuccessfully to contact Mr. Guiboiche via his websites. His last posting was in October of 2008. He may no longer be with us.

Hello Folks ... It is time to launch a Metis offensive ..... against the MMF Inc. ... MNC ... Government of Canada ... Government of Manitoba ... and anyone else that stands in our way! They don't represent me, and, have not for the last ten years ..... I have not received any goods or services from them ... How many of you can say that? There will be a day of judgment on this Metis operation and the Governments of Canada/Manitoba ..... they are all in collusion against us good Metis folks ..... those days are coming to an end!
