Dear Mr. Davies:
Many of our readers including the undersigned do not understand:
(1) Why has Alberta long before now not invested the $1 billion, or whatever it might cost, to construct a state-of-the-art refinery so value added product from the oil sands could be shipped directly to the United States?
(2) A couple years ago Chinese interests offered to help finance a pipeline from the oil sands to Canada's west coast. However, the deal was never consummated. In light of increasingly vocal environmental protests of the Enbridge proposed pipeline to carry raw bitumen from the oil sands to Texas for refining, many are suggesting if approved it will leave the pollution here while exporting the jobs there. Why was the Chinese offer rejected?
Sincerely,
Clare L. Pieuk
