A female prosecutor in Logan, Ohio says a line has been crossed after her opponent in a political race publicized a tale about her underwear coming off in a courtroom.

Hocking County Prosecutor Laina Fetherolf admits a 'wardrobe malfunction' occured, when she is said to have worn black panties under a light summer dress in court. The fashion faux pas was noted by the presiding judge, according to the salacious story allegedly promulgated by her Republican opponent Jason Sarver.

Fetherolf excused herself from the courtroom and later returned, allegedly tossing the undergarment at the judge's bench. But Fetherolf says the whole incident has been blown out of proportion and is threatening to take the rumormonger to court for the damaging fib.

The incident reportedly occurred sometime in 2011 when the Democratic prosecutor, who is now seeking her second term, was appearing before Common Pleas Court Judge John T. Wallace. During the proceedings, her is said to have elicited snickering from the audience seated in the gallery.

Given the interruption, Wallace is believed to have mentioned the clothing distraction and asked Fetherolf to resolve the issue.

According to Sarver's account, the woman exited the courtroom and went to the bathroom to remove the offending undergarment, according to the Logan Daily News.

She allegedly then returned to the hearing, tossed her panties at the judge and announced, 'Problem Solved.'
Fetherolf will only concede that a 'wardrobe malfunction' occurred. She failed to specify what the actual issue was but she calls Sarver's version of events a complete fabrication.

'None of that story is true, anything that has happened with my clothing I've handled discreetly,' she told the local paper.

'It's embarrassing. I don't know why [Sarver's] doing that and making negative remarks. I don't campaign this way, and I don't know why he does,' she added.

The judge, who allegedly was on the receiving end of her toss, agreed that no underwear has ever been flung his way.

'Obviously, nobody threw any panties on my bench,' Wallace said. 'I never saw anything. I don't know anything really.'

He added that he doesn't remember the alleged incident.

'I do not recall that. The way that municipal court works, we have a lot of hearings but quite often they are short. We have cases set every 15 minutes, and sometimes there is a break of a few minutes between them,' he said.

Seeking reelection: Laina Fetherolf is seeking a second term as Hocking County Prosecutor.

The shocking tale began to circulate as Sarver campaigned and tried to paint an unflattering picture of his opponent.

In response, Fetherolf is taking him to task for dirty campaigning.

She asked the Ohio Elections Commission to intervene but they dismissed her complaint, saying there isn't adequate proof Sarver was the source of the rumour.

'This is one of the more interesting complaints we've ever received,' Philip Richter, executive director of the elections Commission, said about the dispute.

Now Fetherolf said she is reviewing her options and may sue Sarver for defamation of character through his alleged smear campaign.
